The first International Scientific Open Days on GM crops will take place on 10th and 11th November. Entitled Genetically modified crops in the scientific, agricultural, environment and health spheres, the objective of these workshops is to lay on the table the scientific arguments so that society has all the available information about the risks that genetically modified organisms entail for our health and the environment.
Spain is the only country in the EU in which genetically modified crops are cultivated on a commercial scale. More than a decade of their cultivation has shown serious socio-economic effects. Moreover, they breach certain European regulations such as labelling, denying the consumer the right to choose.
Through conferences, round table discussions and debates, prominent speakers from Spain and the European Union will tackle subjects such as risk assessments, the effects of pesticides and genetically modified organisms on our health, environmental damage caused by GM crop production, the social impacts of biotechnology and the defencelessness of the law when faced with GM crop cultivation.
The open days will be held in the Escuela de Organización Industrial (Avda. Gregorio del Amo, 6, Madrid – Ciudad Universitaria – Metro Metropolitano), on 10 November from 9.30am to 7.00pm and on 11 November from 9.00am to 4.00pm. You can register for free by emailing jornadastransgenicos@gmail.com and providing details of your name, surname and organisation.
This is a great opportunity to acquire a wider, more realistic vision of the consequences of GM crop cultivation for our health and our planet.
