Fabrics For Freedom co-hosts BeCo, the first meeting on ethical fashion in Barcelona.

An ethical attitude is to demonstrate a concern for people, animals and environment. This involves being aware of the rights of workers, the use of chemicals in the product manufacture, the environmental impact of distribution and all the social and environmental effects of business activity. Given the lack of knowledge about ethical fashion and the low visibility of the initiatives in Spain comes the opportunity to meet this new demand: BeCo – BeCoolBeConscious. This niche market is viewing by Lydia Sangüesa and Anna Badia takes charge and set off its conceptualization and form a great team of sustainability experts in the fashion industry that take part into the project on a firm and long-term way: Elena Salcedo, the foundation Fabrics For Freedom and the international organization Textile Exchange.

BeCo’s mission is to create and promote projects with the aim of disseminating the sustainability in the fashion industry, support the transfer of knowledge among consumers, manufacturers, distributors, brands…. and enhance economic development.

The platform is split into two main pillars: BeCo BOX as a meeting point and business generation that focus the best projects, brands and cool&conscious professionals. BeCo VOX with activities to disseminate the values of responsibility, sustainability and solidarity to the main stakeholders in the textile and fashion sector and society in general.

BeCo BOX offers a multidisciplinary space where resources and services are offered through: Spot, finding solutions to challenges; Wall, a window for promotion; Break, organic product tasting; Shop, a pop up for collection sales; Show, a catwalk to show off creations; and Net, to be part of a large network.

The VOX goals are to contact and generate exchange between industry experts and successful businesses and provide them a platform to share a global and future perspective of the world of sustainable fashion with a wider and worried audience, through keynote presentations, lectures and round tables.

BeCo has the support of “Ajuntament de Barcelona” and The Brandery and two large leaders in promoting sustainability in the international textile industry.
